Facebook has announced its mega plan of integrating three of its most popular social networking platforms i.e. Whatsapp, Instagram and Facebook Messenger with each other. What will be the consequences of this merger? How will this merger impact the users? We will try to answer these questions in this post.
As per the media reports, Facebook is looking to integrate Whatsapp, Messenger and Instagram by the end of 2019 or in the early quarter of next year. After this merger, a user of one platform can easily send messages to the user on other social media platform owned by Facebook. For example, if you are a Facebook user and don’t use Whatsapp. After this merger, you can easily send messages to other Whatsapp user from Messenger, without using Whatsapp and vice-versa.
Facebook is looking to provide end-to-end encryption for this cross-platform messaging service. Still many people are of the view that this mega integration programme of the company will violate privacy of its users. It is still unclear, whether an Instagram or Messenger user will be able to join Whatsapp group or not. If a Whatsapp user doesn’t want to be contacted from users of either of the two social media platform, how will his interest be safeguarded? These questions are still unanswered.
Will Facebook break its promises?
Facebook had promised that it will always maintain the independence of Instagram and Whatsapp, before acquiring them. Though, Facebook is still saying that after this proposed merger the two platforms will continue to work as an independent entity and will not lose their individuality. Resignation of former Whatsapp chairman few months back from Facebook, has given rise to several speculations.
Integration of Instagram and Messenger with Whatsapp is surely going to boost the popularity of both platforms further. Undoubtedly, Whatsapp is currently ruling this field.
